Domestically, most onshore LNG storage tanks are of the full containment type. Membrane-type LNG storage tanks offer significant advantages compared to full containment tanks.
By the end of 2020, most of the large LNG storage tanks in China were predominantly constructed using 9% nickel steel full containment tanks. However, they no longer held a technological advantage in terms of scalability and energy efficiency, lagging significantly behind countries like Japan and South Korea. There is an urgent need for a transition and upgrade towards membrane tank technology in the LNG storage tank sector.
SINOTECH's STM membrane tank technology will be applied in the cargo containment systems of LNG transportation vessels and LNG fuel ship tanks, breaking the foreign technology monopoly and achieving a breakthrough in domestically-owned technology.
As of the end of 2020, there were a total of 642 LNG transportation vessels globally, with approximately 80% utilizing membrane containment systems. Among them, all large-scale carriers, LNG bunkering vessels, and LNG-powered vessels with capacities exceeding 170,000 cubic meters exclusively use membrane tanks.
